Wally's human writes: Like a lot of the Jackhuahua owner's that have submitted stories, there was a sad reason behind getting Wally.

September 2011 my boyfriend died, completely out of the blue. He was a healthy 28 year old, always cycling and working hard to earn money for us to move into out first home together. One week before we picked up the keys he suffered a massive heart attack in his sleep, Barry had a genetic disorder that nobody was aware of. My world was dark and empty, and my sister felt I could do with a companion.

I couldn't have asked for a more lovely friend that Wally. His mum is a miniture jack russel, his dad a teacup chihuahua. We specifically looked at smaller breeds due to having a small garden, but I'd never heard of Jack Chi's before. He didn't come from a breeder as such, his litter was the result of two family pets doing the dirty. When we went to see him he was one of three pups left, the other two were bitches and they looked much more like Jack's than he does. :D I fell for his little face and massive ears, reminded me of a dingo or a desert fox!

I've owned dogs in the past, but I've never known such a happy, friendly, clever puppy before. :) Wally is 6 months old, his ears stand tall unless he's sad or has just woken up. He's fast to learn; he can sit, wait, lay and give paw for treats, and while he's on walks he waits at the curb until he's told to cross over the road. He's been wearing jumpers and coats since 10 weeks old, we have no fuss getting them on and off him. There are six other dogs in my family, different breeds and sizes, Wally has known them all from the first week we got him, he'll make friends with anyone. I must say, the majority of people that we pass on the street feel compelled to stroke him :D I don't blame them, he's super cute. He has no idea how small he is, brave enough to play with dogs ten times his size, and his bark is loud enough to scare them off haha. I'm impatient, so curious to know how big he will grow!

For a little guy, he's made such a massive difference to my life. Any time spent with him is well rewarded with his obedience, love and kisses. Thumbs up for cross breeds!

Several months ago, our Husky died unexpectedly from heart failure. This had been my youngest daughter Mary's, favorite dog and a big loss to the family. . A week later, I decided to take Mary to our local animal shelter to see what they had on hand.

It didn't take long to decide on this Jack Russel puppy with long ears; at least that was my description. The puppy was an instant success here at home and Mary named her new friend Sandy.

Sandy is now about 7 or 8 months old, guessing, and she has turned out to be the perfect pet. Although she has chewed up several shoes to the chagrin of my wife Donna.

She is a very intelligent puppy and quick to learn tricks. She loves to perform for snacks and she can sit, lay down, speak, shake hands, stand and play a game we call Love doggy. This is where she starts chewing on a hand and we play keep away with the hand. She runs back and forth to catch it and eventually growls. When we give her a hand we put fingers around her neck so she can't bite. This works up to a frenzy where she is playing but getting more and more aggressive. Then we say, "Love Doggy," and start petting her back as she licks the skin off our hands. It's funny to see her go from attack mode to loving in a second. This is played out in such a way as to never get Sandy upset and is just play; she seems to enjoy the game very much.

Sandy is a very loving dog and loves to lick hands and legs. I have never seen a dog who enjoys licking so much. Is this normal??

We also have a large German Shepard named Abby. Abby did not warm up to Sandy at first but now they are best friends. Abby get's down on her belly so they are equal in height when they play. Sandy seems to have lot's more energy and Abby soon gets annoyed and tries to escape.

He is the most cuddly dog I have ever had and he really is just a big sook. But he does get extremely energetic as well, he used to be a little fireball until he became an adult and settled down. He's the most loving dog, and the greatest companion you could ever ask for.

The gang's human writes: I recently found your blog and its been wonderful to see that there is a whole network of people out there who have Jackuahuas. I have two: Riley and Emma. Riley just turned 5 in February, and Emma is about 16 weeks old. I am in love with their outoing personalitys and how loving they are.

Riley is very dependant and wants to be with me all the time, wants my love and affection. Emma just wants to be in the same room but is very independant. I love how they are both SO different.

i have bandit, a 2 year old male who is tri coloured and the most adorable thing i have ever seen i have attached a picture of him waiting impatiently for his bath, he loves to swim around and play fetch with rubber duckies his nick name is fella, and we often tell him hes a goodfella :) after the film he also gets called baba.

i also have suki a 1 year old female who is tan and white she cant help but wiggle her tail when she sees someone she so friendly and will greet anybody with a hug she loves to have her head rubbed and if you ignore her she will push against you hand until you take the hint and give her a rub. her nicknames are dooky as we sometimes caller her sukidooky and stinkerbell because her name tag on her collar rattles when she runs towards you with excitement. on the photo she is sleeping on her bunny rabbit hot water bottle she loves to snuggle somewhere warm so i often give her a luke warm hot water bottle and she will curl up and nap.

arent they just the cutest and they give you so much love :) life if better with jackhuahuas.

Louie's owner writes: Louie is now 2 ½ yrs old. He hasn’t changed much over the past year. He is still full of energy and very loving.

Louie had a very busy summer this year. He spent most of his summer camping and lying in the sun!!

His new favorite thing to do is take all of his toys along with his owner’s socks and other belongings and hide them under the bed.

Louie is not looking forward to the fall and winter months. He gets very cold, since he has no hair on the underside. But not to worry, his Momma always makes sure he has plenty of blankies and clothes for those cold days. Louie however is looking forward to football. Ready to wear his jersey and make some noise!!

Upon my asking if she has any Yorkie in her: No Yorkie at all! Everyone assumes she is a miniature Yorkie, but its just the hair! When she is trimmed her head is pure Chihuahua and she has the stocky stature of a Jack Russell.

Mr. Murray's owner writes: My fiancé and I are the proud parents of a 1.5 year old Jackhuahua. His name is Murray but you can call him Mr. Murray, please and thank you! He co-owns us along with two cats. He is a ball of energy. His mom is a pure bred Jack Russell and his dad is a pure bred Chihuahua. We thought at first that he would be a small little quieter dog. Boy, were we wrong! Murray last weighed in at a muscular 23 pounds. He has shorter legs but he runs faster than most dogs and gives up long after they’ve tired out. He’s a total social butterfly. He just loves to play with other dogs and children and has some best friend dogs that he will share food and water with. Murray is your typical Jackhuahua, from what I hear. He will destroy things in seconds if he’s bored so we try very hard not to let him get bored! He’s very sweet. He loves to give kisses and wants to be with people all the time. He likes it best when he is the centre of attention. Right now, since I am not feeling so great due to a chest infection, he is curled up under the blanket with me. Everyone who meets him loves him.

My 3 years old dog is 15lbs and the funniest animal on the planet.

Gordo's owner writes: My husband Jason and I adopted our baby Gordo June 2009. We went to the humane society looking for a female dog that was not anything hyper. Well when we got there we saw Gordo and just fell in love with him. We later found out that he was going to be put to sleep the next day. I am so glad that we got to him in time. Louie is now a 16 months old and doing great!!! We have come so far in training him. He has been enjoying his summer. He loves to play fetch with his ball in the lake and take long rides on the boat.. His social skills are much better. He gets along with people and other dogs now. He enjoys going on his play dates with his buddies. He still does not like big dogs, only small and medium size. Louie also encountered his first bee sting this summer. His little paw and thigh swelled up real big and he limp around for a little while. We put some ice on it and removed the stinger and he is doing much better. Thankfully he didn’t have an allergic reaction.

Louie writes: I am now a 1 yr old……. I went on my first boating trip of the season and loved it. It is still too chilly for me to go swimming. Once it warms up, I will be all about swimming in the lake. I enjoy watching the fish jump out of the water. I often bark at them.. Roxy's owner writes: Here is a picture of our Jackhuahua, Roxy. We adopted her from the Humane Society here in San Antonio, Texas.
Roxy started off kind of timid as she was on the streets for a while before we adopted her.
We have had her since Dec. 22 and she is 4 years old now. We think that she must have been in a home before because she came to us with such good manners and she knew how to shake hands. When she shook our hands for the first time we knew that she was the dog for us. She enjoys the sun and walking at the dog park and she enjoys having visitors over at our place and she greets them with a shake of the hand. She is such a great addition to our family.
The pictures we are sending you are from a camping trip we recently took to Garner State Park here in Texas.
We were hiking and spelunking caves with her and she was taking those hills like a champ!

Louie's owner writes: Louie is doing quite well. He is 11 months old. He loves going on his walks and runs everyday. He also enjoys visiting his neighborhoods friends’. He is fun of energy that never stops…… I am working with him right know on his social skills. He doesn’t like it when new people approach him. He is fine once you are around him a while, then he warms right up to you. He also doesn’t like it when you go through any door and he is not allowed to follow. He will begin to bark and attack the door. Just a few hurtles we are working on getting over. All in all he is a great dog. Each day is a new learning experience. Louie really enjoys playing fetch with his Frisbee & ball. He also enjoys playing with his pal “Zipper” (cat). Louie is going to be celebrating his 1^st birthday and April 30^th. He can’t wait to have his big party with all his friends.

We got Sparky at a pet store against our better judgment. We wanted to get a dog at the Humane Society. But my husband fell in love with him and insisted we have him even though we couldn't have one in our apartment. Then everything ended up working out and I look at him and realize I wanted him my entire life. He's my first dog. He's 4 years old and weighs 15 pounds and cries when he eats Greenies and is super possessive which results in our cat being schizo. He also loves to hump huge dogs like German shepards and golden retrievers. He's a character!

Charlie's owner writes: It's been four months since Charlie came into our lives. With each passing day, the bond between Charlie and her two dads grows stronger. We can't imagine our lives without her; she goes everywhere with us!

Thank God for Dog Parks, and Dog Beaches - Charlie loves them! I don't know which she enjoys more ... chasing, or being chased. And, as the weather warms up, maybe she'll consider taking a little swim (just too cold, right now).

Last Fall, we bought Charlie a sweater to wear on those cold, Southern California, evening walks (ha ha). <>. Well, returning from our walk one night, Charlie started to run full speed around the wishing well that sits in our front yard (approx. 48" diameter). Around she went - once, twice, ... And on the third time around (without missing a beat; no slowing whatsoever), the sweater was gone! "Wow! She's a magician, too.", Frank exclaimed.

During the Thanksgiving Holiday, we took a drive up the California coast. Charlie just loves to help drive; well, she thinks she's helping. She's also just as happy with her head hanging out the passenger window - or, grabbing a few "Z's" on the back seat.

Charlie's owner writes: Don't let the name fool you, Charlie is all girl ... in fact, she's the Queen of the house! Charlie was named after one of my mother's favorite perfumes; and, I've always liked the name (boy or girl). In case anyone happens to be interested, Charlie's theme song can be found on YouTube at this address. Now, how many dogs have their own theme song?!?

Charlie was four weeks old when she came to our home (07 Sep '08). Since that date, five weeks have passed and we can't imagine our lives without her. There's no other feeling in the world like the one I get when Charlie greets me at the door! Aside from taking Charlie to the workplace, we try to include her in everything we do (e.g., Gardening, Running Errands, Visiting Friends, and Eating Out).

The decision to become dog owners wasn't easy for us. We both love dogs, but it's been more than 20 years since either of us have owned one - we were both a little out of practice. In addition, Frank never had experience with a dog that lived inside. He only knew the 'big' boys. You know the type ... with one wag of their tail they're able to move furniture and send knickknacks flying across the room. So, getting a dog that lived inside was a little unsettling for him; and, I didn't want a dog that lived outside.

Much to his surprise, and mine, Charlie has been amazing! As an example, she was house broken in two days. Our plan to confine her to certain areas of the house during the work week went by the wayside - she has complete run of the house. So far, she hasn't damaged anything. She chooses to play with her 'own' toys rather than our furniture and personal belongings. Sure, she has shredded a magazine, or two, but shame on us for leaving it where it was so accessible (we're learning, too!).

Charlie is ever so playful with boundless energy to run and jump. Frank made her a simple (but favorite) toy - a plastic plant container with a 10 ft piece of nylon twine tied to the bottom. He'll throw out the string and Charlie will jump and dive ... trying her best to snag that plastic 'trophy'. Once she has it in her clutches, she prances away with her spoils. It's a joy to behold! Truth be told, playing with Charlie and this homemade toy is as much, if not more, fun for us as it is for her!

In this crazy, unpredictable world, Charlie is a constant source of pure happiness for us. We are truly blessed to have her in our lives. Every day, the bond between Charlie and us grows stronger. There's very little that we wouldn't do for this sweet, cuddly, hairy ball of love! [Hey, how else did she talk her way into our bed?]

Simon's owner writes: We live in Northern Ireland. The first pic shows Simon in the only little t-shirt I could get to fit him and the last show his new friend (a full chi) wearing the same tiny t-shirt- Look how big Simon has got!!! He's about 18 months now.

He loves to dress up, is a real character and is known by everyone in our town. He sleeps in my bed at night and lies in longer than me every morning! He is absolutely spoiled rotten and I love him more than words can say.

Peanut's owner writes:A little over a month ago I rescued Peanut from the streets of Los Angeles. It was night time and he was terrified and apparently had been abused by the way he first behaved. Peanut is around 10 months old.After spending less than a day together, we became so attached and he became my little shadow. I don't know what I ever did without him. He is absolutely the BEST DOG EVER! He is so sweet, funny, full of energy, kisses and love. He is a bundle of happiness & he always makes me smile. My puppy was part of a 6 pup rescue of a stray Jack Chi that was hit by a car and the pups were taken by Cesarean and hand raised. He's just 10 weeks old, weighs 4 pounds. He's just a little love bug, full of energy.

My husband also wanted to "save a dog" from the humane society, but I wanted a small puppy and I found Fallon on Craig's List-a local ad. All 6 pups were adopted in two days. I really didn't know much about this mix of breed until we got him home and I started researching.

I have been overwhelmed by people's response to him. I get stopped on the street, at the vet, at the pet store, everywhere people want to know what he is and where I got him. We also have two old cats who are tolerating the new puppy pretty well. He chases, sometimes they run, sometimes they turn around a put him in his place.
